Blaster Worm...

I had a little bit of a scare last night while using my dad's new pc! The pc technician who installed Windows XP on the system forgot to update Windows and therefore, within minutes of getting this new machine online, a pop-up appeared telling me that the pc was going to be shut down within a minute. Right, imagine how fucked one should feel when such things happen, especially when it happens to a new pc!

Before I managed to get the critical updates from Microsoft, the pc had already shut itself down twice. I really had to rush myself to find the appropriate patch to download and trust me, the Microsoft website wasn't that helpful. At the website, I downloaded a "blaster worm removal tool" which would not run on the new machine (even after the critical updates were installed). Somehow, through Google, I managed to get hold of a website called webroot (http://www.webroot.com) and the tools for removing the balster worm there were simply excellent. There are many other tools there too for removing trojans and and other worms and also a knowledge database about worms that's far greater than Microsoft.

After two restarts, and running the blaster worm removal program from webroot, the new pc was back to it's normal self again. I did leave the connection as well as the pc on, just to be absolutely sure that blaster worm was gone for good. Luckily enough for me, it was gone.

Today, the pc seems to be working just fine, and I have got to say it's pretty fast too. Well, it is an AMD Athlon 64 - bit processor ...

Well, this post is for the guys.

Many of us today have mobile phones and most of us go crazy about new colour mobile phones that have as many functions as PDA's. We spend good cash on our phones, and countless hours meddling with them. Apart from using it to speak to another person, we all seem to enjoy sending SMS's and MMS's to people and playing various games that we can download from the net. When we are not using our mobile phones, we often place them in our pockets or in a small phone pouch that is hooked to our belts.

Last week, 'The Star' newspaper (Malaysian edition) reported that placing mobile phones in our pockets or anywhere near our genitals has the potential of damaging our sperm count. The newspaper report that was provided by the Journal of Human Reproduction.

Well, doesn't that just make you feel less of a man or what?! First microwave ovens, then fax machines and laptops, and now mobile phones! Sigh, technology seems to damage our manhood doesn't it? While I was snooping through the net and looking for new blogs to inspire me, I found this blog by this guy from France and he has been writing about his experience in Malaysia, which was around last July. I had a little trouble understanding what he wrote as my French totally sux. I could understand bits and pieces of what he was trying to tell me, but I still needed the help of 'babelfish" to translate the texts to english. Wow, not many peple come to Malaysia and write such artistic stuff about our country, but this guy certainly did. And yup, as usual, the Europeans simply love our weather over here :) . It has been some time since he last updated his blog though. The last entry was on the 30th of July 2004

Syam quitting?

While I was at the Cricket Academy today waiting for my dad who was having a word with the Johore Team, I had absolutely nothing to do, and so I decided to make a few phone calls. After making a short phone call to Mike and spoke about the our Diploma in Computing class that commences on the 10th of January, I made a call to Syam who who had just walked out of the bank.

While I was talking to her, I casually asked "So, are you joining the January intake?". She replied by saying "Maybe", which was rather shocking and made me feel uncomfortable. After questioning her for some time, I finally got down to the truth that she felt she couldn't cope with the IT industy. Well, it would be sad if she doesn't join the January intake.

I ended the coversation by telling her to take care and to think wisely before making any decisions. I just can't imagine what class woul be like without the girl that was so fun to be with. Sigh, I know that this new class would have a lot more girls than the last, but who cares? Not having Syam around means losing a really good friend!!

Well, we will just have to wait and see. Hopefully Mike, Johan and a few other fellows can talk her into staying. I'll try, but I'm not sure if it would bring any good because she seems to have made up her mind.

Blonde Revolution

Have you all seen the number of local Chinese (Malaysian Chinese) dying their hair blonde? Well, here in Johor Bahru, at least 6 out of every Chinese Males and 4 out of every 7 Chinese females dye their hair blonde. The number of blonde hair dye sold in Johor Bahru is the second largest in the country, as first spot belongs to Kuala Lumpur.

Now, I ain't against blondes as I have blonde friends like Lauren, and Kirsty, but blonde just doesn't look good on Chinese people. Why are the Chinese around here so ashamed to be look the way they are. Trust me, in Malaysia, there should be no inferior feeling in a Chinese simply because they are the economic super power of Malaysia. Yup, that's right, they own many businesses. On the top 10 list of richest people in Malaysia, only no 4, 7 and 9 are not Chinese. Yet, they want to look like something they are not!

Besides that, if you would look at Chinese girls around here, you would realize that they arent ugly or anything at all!!! In fact the Miss Malaysia title is usually won by a Chinese. Yet they are not satisfied with their hair! It is rather strange to imagine that a person would much rather look stupid and "beautify" themselves than look their normal self....

Presenting...the best goal keeper in the world.... Jens Lehmann!!.... YEAH, RIGHT!!!

Recently Jens Lehmann said on German radio that he was the best goal keeper in the world, and he also stated that Oliver Kahn was no longer worthy of a place in the German squad. Wow, aren't those strong words from a goalkeeper that left the German League because he "could not excel in Germany."

A few weekends ago, during one of those usual English Primier League matches, Totenham faced Arsenal at White Hart Lane. As usual, Jens Lehmann had a disorder that caused him constant hallucination, making him think that he was the best goal keeper in the world. The result of that match, a 5-4 result. Last weekend, Arsenal drew with West Bromwich Albion, and yup, Lehmann played a role in W.B.A.'s goal. His role - making sure that W.B.A. scored.

If you would look at Arsenal's record this year, they've had 18 goals scored against them. Arsenal also happens to have the worst defensive record among the top 6 in the Premier League. Most of the goals scored against them was thanks to Lehmann.

I wonder, what's up with Lehmann? Was his coments a publicity stunt? Does he really have a disorder that causes constant hallucination, making him think he is the best? Or is it just his way of begging the German F.A. not to forget him?

I don't even know the answer to these questions? C'mon Lehmann, why don't you say something now? Or, maybe the Arsenal fans can leave some explanation in the comments section, and answer on your behalf.

Same old... same old

Hey everyone, this is my new blog! My old blog used to be at MBlog, but those bastards wanted me to pay for their service (they ended all free service) so right now, this is my blog. It's not going to be really different from my other blogs, wel, not much anyway.

Rachel gave me a really interesting name last week. In replying to the email that I sent to her, she addressed me as “Gurdz”. I have to say, that nickname sounds awesome. In the past, I have had nicknames such as “Guru”, “Pokerface”, “Gur”, “Lara” and so on. I’m sure you’re all wondering why “Lara”. Well, in Cricket, I am a Right – arm bowler and a left – handed batsman, which was exactly the same way Brian Lara of the West Indies plays cricket. One thing is for sure though; I could never match Brian Lara, the top scorer ever in a test match (501 not out).

I read Annette Wong’s blog this evening (after more than 3 months), and realized the kind of pressure that she has been going through. It’s sad to hear what happened between her and Tom. I still remember the day she told me that she and Tom were together. That day was Malaysia’s Independence Day. Apparently, they had been together for a while by then (more than a month). I suppose everything that starts, has to come to an end, right? Well, I feel sorry for her and I know that she will be able to get through this tough period.

Apart from all that, Saturday witnessed 2 of the fiercest rivalry in football (soccer) history. The matches between Glasgow Celtic and Glasgow Rangers in Scotland, as well as the match between Barcelona and Real Madrid were simply electrifying.

This is what the score line looked like at the end of the day at both matches:

Glasgow Rangers 2

Glasgow Celtic 0

Barcelona 3

Real Madrid 0

Well, doesn’t that just surprise you! Glasgow Celtic going down against their bitter rivals away from home. The sending off Chris Sutton and Alan Thompson certainly added insult to injury for Celtic.

As for Barcelona and Real Madrid, there weren’t much fouls for the referee to send any player off the field, but one stood out, as a penalty was given to Barcelona for the foul, and Ronaldinho scored to ensure a victory over their deadliest rivals.

Johore Cricket Academy

I had a really late lunch this afternoon, but it was all worht it as I managed to visit the Johore Cricket Academy which is located on the outskirts of Johor Bahru. The academy certainly looks way better than it did 3 years back when I used to play for the Johore Senior Team. The area is so organised now and finally we can say that it's international standards. I have no idea how long I was there, but it should have been like an hour or so.

Right now, I'm about to o out and I'll probably be back late, certainly after dinner (nothing to worry about... I just had something to eat). If I do get back early, I'll surely post something, but if I don't, then ya'all know that I got back late. Well, ciao!

I just remembered that I was suposed to call Syam last night and discuss with her about the January intake. Oh dear, if she did join the November intake, then it's going to be hard for her to change to the Jan intake. How could I forget such an important phone call. I can't call her now because her phone is off. Ah well, looks like I will just have to wait and call her later then.
